"Canine Wills," by Amalia (Amy) Zents

“Canine Wills,”
by Amalia (Amy) Zents

“Just went for a walk in the pouring rain
with a broken umbrella that flopped left and right;
Trying to stabilize it was like propping up a sailor,
Drunk and ready to fight.
The dogs came with me on my walk;
their fur got soaking wet;
But they begged me to go out with them,
and therefore out we went!
The Lilac trees and fresh mown grass
smelled fresh and cool and sweet,
The sky was dark, the lamps were lit,
as my wet socks soaked my feet;
Two canine wills prevailed o’er me,
although both dogs got drenched
As we journeyed home,
we all felt glad their urge to pee was quenched!”
